So, this week sees the second of the Green Deal Pioneer Places projects beginning for BGH.
This project on a classic semi detached 1950s house in Mile Oak represents what the Green Deal is all about really. Rather than the full holistic fix that BGH does on its normal projects, this is a loft insulation top up (currently inky about 60mm between joists at ceiling level.) we are going to use a product called Loftzone which allows us to retain the storage space in the attic – a major issue for many young families with small kids.
We are also replacing the boiler, improving the heating controls and sorting out some minor plumbing works. All in all pretty straightforward job but will raise the EPC from a poor E54 to a much more respectable C74 saving the householder a very respectable £500 per year.
